All Aboard!….For The Ffestiniog Victorian Weekend!

All Aboard!! For the Ffestiniog Victorian Weekend 6-8 October 2017!

Porthmadog is the place to be for the Ffestiniog Railway Victorian Weekend! Porthmadog is a Victorian town and William Madocks built the famous sea wall (The Cob) to enable the land to be used for agriculture. The diversion of the water created the harbour which was deep enough for small sailing ships to use…and so began “Portmadoc” now known as Porthmadog. Many quays were built, mostly by quarry companies, to transport slate from Ffestiniog to the waiting ships. The slate was transported from the mine to the quays via the Ffestiniog railway.

So, to celebrate the history of the Ffestiniog Railway and Porthmadog, a Victorian Weekend is held every year. It’s not just all about the railway though, there will be decorated shops, special events in the Maritime Museum, period fairground rides and stalls….and Victorian costumes galore!
