Guided Walks at Porthor (Whistling Sands) August 2025

Join the National Trust on a guided group walk across around Porthor, perfect for anyone looking to gain confidence in walking in the countryside, meet new people or discover new routes around Llŷn.  Along this guided walk, the walk leader will share their knowledge of the nature and history of the surrounding area. During this walk, you will gain confidence from walking in the countryside and learn how to plot your own routes in the future.

Enjoy stunning sea views along the path, seeing the famous “squeaky” sands of Porthor (Whistling Sands). This walk is ideal for those looking to gain confidence and explore paths beyond the beach. Along the way, keep an eye out for animals, such as highland cows grazing nearby.

Other
The walk is approximately 1 mile, lasting 1–1.5 hours. The walk is at a leisurely pace, with stops to take in the views and hopefully spot some wildlife. The terrain will be mostly grass, dirt paths, and fields. Uneven underfoot but it will be mostly flat. Some sections of the coastal path are narrow with sloping drops. The ground may be muddy or slippery in places. Unfortunately, there are no toilets along the route. A bench is available at the start of the walk but not beyond. Dogs are not permitted on this walk, as the route passes through fields with wildlife and grazing livestock. There’s no need to book, just turn up on the day.
